Scope and Contents The Robert A. Helm Collection consists of papers documenting railroad and coal operations, primarily those of the Carolina, Clinchfield and Ohio Railway, in Southwest Virginia in the mid to late 20th century. The papers were collected by Robert A. Helm over a number of years while researching his book The Clinchfield Railroad in the Coal Fields. Scope and Contents Throughout his career, Dowdy collected photographs related to various, regional railroads. Some of the collection's photographs were taken by Dowdy, while others were obtained through trade with fellow collectors.
