Scope and Contents The bulk of this collection is 567 field recordings, most on lacquer discs, made by Mary Elizabeth Barnicle and Tillman Cadle of music, stories, and speech in New York City, Florida, Georgia, the Bahamas, Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee during collecting trips between 1935 and 1950. Scope and Contents The Broadside Television Collection includes both manuscripts and tapes. Scope and Contents The Kipp Dawson Papers reflect Kipp Dawson’s roles as woman coalminer, scholar, and political organizer, as well as her affiliations with the United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) and the Coal Employment Project (CEP). Scope and Contents

The collection consists of recordings of interviews conducted by Gunter's students in connection with his courses on social geography. The interview subjects are primarily from East Tennessee and often discuss topics of regional interest such as music, farm life, coal mining, and foodways. The collection also includes dub sheets for the first eight tapes, partial transcripts of tapes 2, 5 and 6, and summaries of interviews.

Scope and Contents The Marat Moore Collection consists of audiotapes, transcriptions of Moore's interviews of women coal miners, and photographs of selected women miners. Related items such as correspondence between Moore and the women interviewed and/or newsclippings are included in the files of a number of the women. The Cecil Rose collection includes writings by Rose, clippings from magazines and newspapers, and photographs primarily on Southwest Virginia and West Virginia history. Among the subjects covered in the collection are local feuds, mining, and lawmen and outlaws. The five black and white 5" x 7" photographs are copies which have been placed in the appropriate subject file.

Scope and Contents The Virgil Q. Wacks Collection contains approximately 1,816 reels and clips of motion picture film produced between 1942 and 1986. The collection also includes four audiotape recordings of musical performances, interviews, and business advertisement spots. The film collection documents the people, businesses, and towns of the Appalachian region and beyond.
