The video tape covers the Friday, July 17, 1987 meeting of the Congressional Holiness Church in Griffin, Georgia, while the audio tape covers the Sunday, July 19, 1987 meeting. The minister for both services is Gene Price.

The collection consists of recordings of interviews conducted by Gunter's students in connection with his courses on social geography. The interview subjects are primarily from East Tennessee and often discuss topics of regional interest such as music, farm life, coal mining, and foodways. The collection also includes dub sheets for the first eight tapes, partial transcripts of tapes 2, 5 and 6, and summaries of interviews.

The Harvey Lee Hughett Collection consists of 120 reel-to-reel tape recordings made between 1950 and 1977 of religious meetings at various East Tennessee churches, singing, "homecomings," folk music, and informal interviews with rural people.

The collection is organized into three series, as follows: Series 1, Diary, 1836-1838 and undated; Series 2, Lecture Notes and Sermons, 1842-1875 and undated; and Series 3, Oversized Material, c. 2005.
