The Masengill's Store Records consist of thirty-four ledgers from Masengill's women's wear shop in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee. The ledgers primarily contain customer accounts, with three volumes of accounts payable and three volumes that list the daily weather and sales with mention of special events and early or late closings. The store catered to many of Johnson City's women and also sold and stored furs.

The Barbara McDermitt Recordings consist of 28 audiocassette recordings of Ray Hicks, Hattie Presnell, Stanley Hicks and Frank Proffitt, Jr. telling stories, playing music, and singing; 14 photographs, mainly of storytellers; and reports on the field trip tapes as well as a partial transcript of the Ray Hicks tapes.
