The collection is arranged into two series: Papers and Photographs. The items are arranged alphabetically by subject or document type. The folders containing correspondence are arranged alphabetically by last name of the recipient, and then by date.
The Clarence W. Hobson Collection consists of photocopies of newsclippings, correspondence, photographs, Hobson's memoir ("Appalachia Is My Home, a memoir"), miscellaneous autobiographical material and essays, and genealogical information related to the Hobson family. The material covers the period 1857-1993 and relates to Hobson's life experiences, along with material related to the Dosser family business interests.
The collection is arranged in series according to the subject matters pursued by Dr. Hoffman.
The collection is organized into three series, as follows: Series 1, Diary, 1836-1838 and undated; Series 2, Lecture Notes and Sermons, 1842-1875 and undated; and Series 3, Oversized Material, c. 2005.
The collection consists of incoming and outgoing correspondence between Edward Chalmers Huffaker of Chuckey, Tennessee and his family members and professional colleagues. Most of the correspondence is either to or from Huffaker’s wife, Carrie Sue Redding Huffaker or other Huffaker family members and discusses matters of personal interest and family affairs with only a few of the letters concerning Huffaker’s interest in aeronautics and manned flight.
The papers of the Hyatt-Cretsinger family consist of financial papers, correspondence, Christmas and greeting cards, land boundaries, income tax returns, and family photographs. This material documents activities of the families primarily in the mid to late 20th century.
The papers of Gretchen Hyder include correspondence between Hyder and educational officials, teachers, speakers for workshops, lists of members, reports, plans, programs and bulletins of conferences.
The collection contains documents produced by the international office of the woodworkers union, and by Magnavox, but it consists primarily of Local 5-313 records. Included are contracts between the local and company; negotiation session notes taken by local members; membership and financial records; grievance reports; photographs; international publications; court transcripts; and news clippings, mainly on the 1967 strike.

The Jefferson Burleson Papers consist of a photocopy of Jefferson Burleson’s Civil War notebook. The notebook documents Burleson’s military service in the 8th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment of the Union Army up to the time of his discharge on September 7, 1865.
This collection includes personal correspondence, diaries, poems, essays and private writings, education, employment, and military records, household ersonal business records, genealogy material, photographs & negatives, and newspaper clippings. The collection documents the Jennings' activities primarily between 1917 and 1967.
The Jess Vernon Patton Haworth Papers consist of three ledgers, which record music lessons given by Jess Vernon Patton Haworth. The ledger includes names of students, dates attended, and fees charged. One ledger is dated 1928-29, one 1940, and one undated.
The Jim Mooney Letters consist of photocopies of 35 letters Mooney wrote to his brother Charles, mostly while he was serving in the United States Navy during World War II. The letters describe military life both in training and while at sea in the Pacific theater. Three letters written to his brother before the war discuss Mooney's baseball career and interests.
The John P. Lamb, Jr. Collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, and reports related to various issues which involved Lamb as dean of the College of Health at ETSU. Topics cover the construction of the Speech and Hearing Center, the development of a medical school at ETSU, the reorganization of the College of Health into the School of Public and Allied Health, the School of Nursing, and the Appalachian Regional Center for the Healing Arts.
The papers consist of 2 boxes with material filed in alphabetical order by subject.
The John Wesley Garland Papers consist of photocopies of correspondence, bonds, a will, a broadside, military orders, contracts, affidavits, and a Congressional report that were acquired by John W. Garland and his family between 1849 and 1889.
The collection is divided into nine series: Series 1, Miscellaneous Ledgers and Journals, 1902-1972; Series 2, Shop Orders, 1946-1982; Series 3, Purchase Invoices, 1975-1983; Series 4, General Accounting Ledgers, 1930-1956; Series 5, Union Contracts and Bills of Lading, 1957-1984; Series 6, Company Documents; Series 7, Photographs; and Series 8, Oversize.
The material is arranged alphabetically by title. The videotape and oversized photograph display have been stored separately.
