Scope and Contents

The Watauga Personnel and Guidance Association Collection consists of the business and organizational records of the WPGA and the UETPGA, together with documents produced by the state organization, the Tennessee Personnel and Guidance Association, and the national organization, the American Personnel and Guidance Association. Also included in the collection are materials produced by other guidance and personnel associations.

Arrangement

The collection is divided into five series, as follows: Series 1, Watauga Personnel and Guidance Association Records, 1960-68; Series 2, American Personnel and Guidance Association Records, 1964-78; Series 3, Tennessee Personnel and Guidance Association Records, 1960-77; Series 4, Documents From National and Regional Guidance and Personnel Organizations, 1965-77; and Series 5, Miscellaneous Documents Relating to Guidance and Counseling, 1965-76.

Method of Acquisition

The Watauga Personnel and Guidance Association Records was donated to the Archives of Appalachia in April of 1978 by Sally Wherry. The collection was opened for research on April 12, 1979.

Separated Materials

Twelve slides relating to the Tennessee Educational Association conference in Knoxville on October 31, 1974, have been placed in the Appalachian Photographic Archives.* In addition, 19 American School Counselor Association buttons were removed from the collection.

*As of July 19, 1993, these slides could not be located in the APA.
