William L. Jenkins Collection
Scope and Contents
The William L. Jenkins Papers document the political career of Congressman Jenkins in the United States House of Representatives (January 3, 1997-January 3, 2007). The collection includes administrative records, office files, memoranda, legislative files, government publications, project files and grant applications, subject files, correspondence, news clippings, photographs, recordings, and press releases. Documented, in addition to general congressional and office functions, are Jenkins’ work as a member of the House Agriculture Committee, House Judiciary Committee, and the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Impeachment, which examined the possible impeachment of President Bill Clinton in the late 1990s. Among the many issues covered in the collection are those affecting tobacco growers in the region, veterans affairs, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and federal funding for numerous community development projects in Tennessee’s First Congressional District. Note: Because of possible privacy issues, personal constituent correspondence and files were not transferred to the Archives of Appalachia.
