Scope and Contents
The records include correspondence (general, gift, library, university, and memoranda to faculty and librarians), lists of books and funds donated to the Sherrod Library; library reports and studies; status and work of librarians within the university Faculty Senate; financial records; personnel records; subject records; and records associated with the library's addition.

The collection is arranged into 8 series: Series 1, Correspondence, 1936-1977; Series 2, Book Collections and Funds, 1959-1971; Series 3, Library Reports and Studies, 1938-1970; Series 4, Status and Work of Librarians, 1969-1977; Series 5, Library Subject Files, 1941-1977; Series 6, Financial Records, 1912-1973; Series 7, Personnel Records, 1960-1970s; Series 8, Library Addition, 1964-1967.
Method of Acquisition
In the fall of 1978 the papers of former head librarians of the university library were transferred from storage to the University Archives, where they were inventoried and processed. The collection was opened for research in 1979.
Accruals and Additions
In 2013, Dr. Fred Borchuck donated articles about and preliminary floor plans of the new Sherrod Library building, accession number 2013-054.
Separated Materials
Non-Manuscript Material Fifty aperture cards, a short roll of microfilm, and building plans on transparencies relating to the library addition, 1966-1967, have been placed in the audio-visual storage area. (Box 16)
Processing Information
University Archives Staff completed processing the collection in 1979. The guide was revised in October 1988 and revised by Marie Tedesco in 1993.
