Ruth E. Thomas Scrapbook
Scope and Contents
Ruth Thomas, an East Tennessee State College faculty member, gave this scrapbook "in appreciation of the work of Dr. And Mrs. Sherrod, who have done more than any others to make the campus of State Teachers College one of the most beautiful in America." She presumably took the photographs, had them colored and assembled the scrapbook, but this is not explicitly stated. The scrapbook has wooden covers bound with a leather thong. Hand-colored photographs of "The College Campus, 1941" and "Near the College Campus" are mounted on kraft paper pages. Each photograph has a hand-written caption.

Method of Acquisition
The scrapbook was presented to Charles Sherrod, president of State Teachers College, Johnson City, in 1941. In 1986, Sherrod's son, Howell, allowed Larry Smith, East Tennessee State University photographer, to copy the photographs on behalf of the Archives of Appalachia. The original scrapbook was donated at a later date.
