Scope and Contents

The self-study records for re-accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools consists of steering committee meeting minutes, departmental profiles, department faculty profiles, departmental surveys, SACS standards, the self-study report, and appendix A. The records detail the steering committees' assignments which included: the organization and staffing of the eleven committees with a liaison from the steering committee, the compilation and distribution of comprehensive departmental profiles, the conducting of a faculty opinion survey, and compiling and editing data of the committee reports into a single institutional self-study report.

Departmental profiles contain information on degree or degrees offered, hours required for degrees, distribution of graduates for each major, non-state funding, employment prospects for graduates, equipment needs, examples of community service, and departmental operating budgets. Departmental profiles include information on individual faculty members' age, tenure, status, degrees earned, institutions attended, rank, years at ETSU, field of study, teaching specialties and special certifications. Information from the self-study that was useful but not essential to final report was assigned to appendix A. Faculty opinion surveys were not included in the records.

The materials within the records date between 1977 and 1983.

Method of Acquisition

The East Tennessee State University SACS Self-Study Records were transferred to the University Archives by Patsy Pickle, executive aide, Office of the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, on March 30, 1984. The records were opened for research in February 1988.

Processing Information

The University Archives staff completed processing the collection in 1988.
