University Photograph Collection
Scope and Contents
The University Photographic Collection includes thousands of prints, negatives, contact sheets, and slides which document the history of East Tennessee State from 1911 through 1986. Early prints cover the school's years as a normal school and a teaching college, while later prints, slides, and negatives cover the school's history as a college and university. Also included in the collection are prints and negatives from the "Buccaneer" yearbook for the years 1987 through 1990. These prints and negatives document student life at the university.
The addition to the University Photographic Collection consists of photo lab daily work report sheets from the office files of the university photographer (Tom Daniel, at the time). The forms and a notebook used by the photographer document specific photographic activities of the photographer and photo lab for the period 1965-75.

Method of Acquisition
The University Photographic Collection was given to the University Archives in seven separate donations between 1979-89. The first donation was made by retired university photographer Thomas N. Daniel on behalf of the Office of University Relations in 1979. Prints and negatives in the Daniel donation originally were included in accession 50, the Thomas Nance Daniel Collection. Larry Smith, university photographer since 1980, has been responsible for the subsequent donations. Since 1987, when the university photographer assumed responsibility for the yearbook, prints and negatives from the Buccaneer yearbook have been included with these donations. Previous donations of Buccaneer materials have been processed as accession 275.
