Scope and Contents
This collection documents the history of the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad and the Linville River Railway through company records, publications, maps, oral history interviews, films, videotapes, and photographs. The materials date from 1883-2005, but predominantly 1910s-1950. This collection provides a comprehensive visual record of the ET&WNC RR. The written record highlights various aspects of the railroad’s operation. The research value of this collection increases as additions are made by ET&WNC RR Historical Society members.

Method of Acquisition
The East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad Historical Society Collection was donated by the East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad Historical Society to the Archives of Appalachia on September 20, 2000.
Accruals and Additions
Society members have subsequently added to the collection.
Processing Information
Bill Stevens processed the collection in 2004. Julia Cowart, Norma Myers, and Kenneth Riddle arranged and described the photographs in 2008. Additional arrangement and description was done by Patricia Gerard in 2009. Access and preservation copies of films and videotapes have been made.
