The David Diehl Collection was copied from the original owned by Martha Diehl Miller, Bridgewater, Virginia, by Hugh H. Mottern, 844 Central Road, Glenview, Illinois. The collection was given to the Sherrod Library, East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee by Ms. Grace Leab, professor of English, East Tennessee State University on August 7, 1972. The collection was transferred to the Archives of Appalachia in 1979.
