Scope and Contents

The Cecile Cox Quillen Genealogy Collection reflects Mrs. Quillen’s interest in family and local history. The collection consists of genealogical records compiled by Mattie Mettetal and Ruth B. Maxwell for Mrs. Quillen in support of her membership in the National Society Colonial Dames and the National Society Daughters of the American Colonists. The collection includes lineage papers, completed association membership application forms, correspondence, copies of birth, marriage, and other family records, genealogical data, notes, newspaper clippings, and a copy of James H. Quillen’s separation papers from the United States Navy.

The Cecile Cox Quillen Genealogy Collection was donated to the Archives of Appalachia by Ray W. Mettetal, Jr., on behalf of his mother, Mattie Mettetal, Johnson City, Tenn., on November 15, 2002.
