Jeanne M. Rasmussen Papers
Scope and Contents
The Jeanne M. Rasmussen Collection contains both manuscript and photographic materials. Manuscript materials include personal correspondence and financial records; drafts of chapters from Rasmussen's unpublished manuscript on coal mining; essays written by Rasmussen on coal mining and other topics relating to Appalachia; and clippings and scrapbook materials on coal mining, the UMWA, and Rasmussen's writing and photography. The photographic prints depict Appalachian men, women, and children; coal mining disasters, the Buffalo Creek, West Virginia flood of 1972; and strip mining.

Method of Acquisition
The Jeanne M. Rasmussen Papers were donated to the Archives of Appalachia by Jeanne M. Rasmussen on December 4, 1989, accession 1989-352. Marat Moore donated a box of Rasmussen's negatives on March 15, 2006, accession 2006-058. Marat Moore added Ed Kelly's "The Life of a Coal Miner" in 2013, accession 2013-038.

Processing of the collection was completed in August 1993 by Marie Tedesco. Kat Hughes and Jen Bingham reorganized Series 1-4 in November 2013 to incorporate new material. Selena Harmon reorganized Series 5-7 in May 2014.
