The Susan Spalding Tapes include interview and dance footage from Southwest Virginia. Three types of dance are included in the collection: 1) old-time square dancing; 2) flat-footing and clogging; and 3) two-stepping.

The Susan Spalding Tapes are divided into two series: Series 1, "Step Back, Cindy" Tapes, 1989; and Series 2, Beechwood Dance project tapes, 1987.

Method of Acquisition

The first five tapes in the Susan Spalding Tapes originally were transferred to the archives as part of the Old-Time Dance Conference Tapes. These tapes were transferred to a newly-created collections in June 1991.

Accruals and Additions

Three additional tapes were added to the collection by Susan Spalding in August 1991.

Processing Information
