Adam Waterford vs. Isaac Baker Case Transcript

Scope and Contents The Waterford vs Baker transcript details a case initially filed by Adam Waterford in Hawkins County Chancery Court in Rogersville, Tennessee, in 1830. The case details Waterford's efforts to prevent Baker from both securing as payment for debts titles to lands held in trust by a third party, and from retaining possession of a slave previously owned by Waterford. The case began in 1830 and continued through 1841.

Scope and Contents The Weather Bureau Airport Station reports collection consists of weather observation reports taken at the Tri-City Airport weather station at Blountville, Tenn., between 1938 and 1989. The reports provide basic climatological data such as high and low air temperatures, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, and precipitation recorded on a daily basis, as well as cumulative data such as monthly and annual climate averages and record temperatures and precipitation at the weather station.

Scope and Contents The William C. Hicks Papers contain personal and business correspondence, receipts, accounting ledgers and a cash book documenting W. C. Hicks' business activities between 1894 and 1927. The business correspondence describes purchase contracts for the acquisition of factory equipment for the "Midget" Roller Flour and Corn Meal Company and the Virginia Rural Retreat Water Mills. The personal correspondence documents Hicks' involvement with the sales of the Eldredge and Forkner Estates.

Scope and Contents The William Hopper Papers consists of a letter and photocopies of discharge papers documenting some of Hopper's activities during the Civil War. The letter sent by Hopper, while stationed in Helena, Arkansas, to his wife in Iowa reflects the feeling of discontent that Hopper and his colleagues experienced during the Civil War. The letter addresses the issues of the war from the soldier's point of view.

William Sullivan Ledgers

Scope and Contents The collection reflects aspects of William Sullivan's life, family history, and business 1864-1911. Sullivan's letter from a camp near Fredricksburg, Virginia in 1864 describes his attitude towards the Civil War in that year. Copies of pages from his 1879 ledger outline his police duties for that year and detail his genealogy. (Some copies are illegible.) His 1911 ledger lists accounts for the Mitchell Powers Company and reflects church and business construction for the year 1911.
