Tobacco Warehouse Checks and Receipts

Scope and Contents The Tobacco Warehouse Collection consists of 17 receipts and tobacco warehouse checks related to the sale of tobacco at local tobacco warehouses in Johnson City, Tenn., between 1929 and 1940. Receipts give the names of the tobacco grower and the tobacco buyer as well as the weight of tobacco sold and the amount paid. Among the tobacco warehouses represented in the collection are the Central Tobacco Warehouse, Cozart & Foxworth Tobacco Warehouse, and Farmers & Merchants Warehouse.

Scope and Contents The Tour of Downtown Johnson City Brochure was a product of Transitions, a Junior Achievement company of Science Hill High School, Johnson City, Tennessee. The brochure describes several historic structures in downtown Johnson City, Tennessee. The materials include a copy of the brochure, typed drafts of the text for the brochure, a mockup of the brochure, and eight photographs, most of which were used in the brochure.

Hanes Lancaster, Jr. Collection consists of a spiral-bound typescript of Lancaster's World War II memoirs related to his military service titled, "A Military Adventure, 1943-1944-1945 for My Four Daughters," Lancaster completed the writing of his wartime reminiscence in 1997. The memoir describes Lancaster's experiences as a gunner aboards B-29 bombers in the Asian and Pacific theatres during World War II, including bombing missions into China and Japan.
