Biography
Nathaniel Greene Taylor was born in Carter County, Tennessee in 1819. He attended Princeton College, and returned to Elizabethton, Tennessee in 1840 to practice law. Taylor was elected to Congress in 1854 and 1866. President Andrew Johnson appointed Taylor as the Commissioner of Indian Affairs in 1867. His sons Alfred and Robert both ran for the governorship of Tennessee in 1868. Taylor died in 1887 and is buried in Elizabethon, Tennessee.
