Waskiewicz, Fred

Fred Waskiewicz is a member of the Watauga Valley Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society of Johnson City, Tennessee and author of several articles regarding Appalachian Mountain logging railroads.

The Laurel Fork community is located in the southeast section of Carter County, Tennessee, near the North Carolina border. The mountains of Carter County attracted many logging operations during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. One of the more prominent logging operations was the Pittsburg Lumber Company, formed in 1910. The area once owned by the Pittsburg Lumber Company was sold to the National Forest Service and has been incorporated into the Cherokee National Forest.
