Wofford, Charles Parker, 1908-2010
Biography
Dr. Charles P. Wofford was born in Johnson City, Tennessee on December 23, 1908, the son of George T. and Florence Wofford. He attended the local public schools until 1925, at which time he enrolled in the Hill School, Pottstown, Pennsylvania. Graduating from this prep school in 1928, he graduated from Princeton University in 1932 and from the medical school of the University of Pennsylvania in 1936. He interned at the Philadelphia General Hospital from 1936-38 and held a fellowship in internal medicine at the Cleveland Clinic from 1938-40.
In 1940, Wofford opened his practice in internal medicine in Johnson City. From 1942-45, he served in the U. S. Army, working in a station hospital in the Mediterranean Theater. Upon discharge, he returned to his Johnson City medical practice, which now is known as First Choice Medical Practice. He retired in 1985. In 2008, he was honored by the Veterans Administration as the oldest living veteran in Johnson City.
Wofford died in Johnson City, Tennessee on January 19, 2010.
