Biography
William (Bill) L. Smith was born in Scotland and was a mason by trade. In the late 1950’s, he married Margaret “Gowan” Merson.
Bill and Gowan Smith were collectors of Scottish music. They made and exchanged tapes with friends. Bill played and made fiddles. Gowan played organ and piano. Bill had cousins in Canada with whom he would exchange tapes of live, recorded, and commercial performances. Bill died in 1977.
