Biography
Bernard H. Cantor was born in Syracuse, New York on April 13, 1920 and grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee, graduating from Science Hill High School in 1937. He received a B.A. in philosophy, psychology, and history from the University of Tennessee in 1941 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard Law School in 1943. From October 1943 to February 1945, he served as law clerk to the Honorable Harold M. Stephens, Associate Justice, United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. Mr. Cantor, then, worked for the Office of Scientific Research and Development as an attorney of its Legal Division. In February 1946, he returned to Johnson City and began a private law practice.
