Hilbert, Joseph Louis, 1902-1975

Joseph Louis Hilbert, Jr. was born in Tennessee on August 14, 1901 to Joseph and Minnie Hilbert. Louis Hilbert was an aviator and a businessman. He purchased the Appalachian Flying Service (AFS) in 1927 and moved it to Bristol in 1936. He also managed the Tri-City Regional Airport. During World War II, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps with the rank of captain. He married fellow pilot and AFS employee Jane Dulaney in February 1942. The Hilberts sold AFS in 1968 and Louis Hilbert stayed with the company until 1972. He died on June 29, 1975, in Johnson City, Tennessee.
