Biography

Jennie Ethel Townsend Cooke was born in Watauga, North Carolina on March 14, 1881, the daughter of Jonas Townsend and Phebe Moody. She married Barry Alonzo Cook on January 18, 1908. Together they had seven children: Byron Jonas, Aston Adam, Hazel Zenith, Lowell Rhonda, Howard William, Arlee Ethel and Arvilla Ruby. She died in Lenoir, North Carolina on June 13, 1979.

Scope and Contents

The collection consists of scans and copies of two letters to Mrs. Paul (Lettie) Williams in Shulls Mill, North Carolina from Mrs. J.D. Loizeaux (possibly Catherine Lorraine) of Plainfield, New Jersey. The letters are primarily concerned with the purchase of handcrafted articles; Mrs. Loizeaux seems to be a patron of sorts.

There is also a scan and a copy of an original song "The North Carolina Hills" written by Jennie Townsend Cooke.
