Biography
Morton Allen Brown was born in Dieterich, Illinois on June 17, 1916. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Washington and Lee University in 1937 and with a Masters of Arts degree in history from Harvard University in 1938. On the eve of World War II, he took a bicycle tour of Europe and witnessed the growing tension of this time of turmoil and studied briefly under Fredrich A. von Hayek at the London School of Economics. During the war itself, Brown was a conscientious objector and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. While working in this capacity in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, he met a local girl, Bonnie Kate Phillipps, whom he married in 1947. The Browns had one daughter, Annaleah Brown.
