Biography

Edwin Thomas Greninger was born in Montoursville, Pennsylvania in 1918, the son of Fred Raymond Greninger and Martha Cutler Greninger. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Awarded a Ph.D. in history from the University of Pennsylvania in 1958, he taught history at Valparaiso University, Pennyslvania State Unviersity, and Wilkes College before joining the history faculty at East Tennessee State University in 1958. Upon his retirement in 1986, he was granted professor emeritus status.

Dr. Greninger historical interest was in 20th century American and European history. He was widely traveled and the author of several books , including Fifteen Days in Russia (1966). Preceded in death by his first two wives, Jane Mary Greninger and Gem Kate Greninger, he passed away on December 21, 2007.
