Keirn, Alta Elizabeth Pardue, 1892-1983
Biography
Alta Elizabeth Pardue Keirn was born in Madisonville, Tennessee on June 22, 1892 to James M. and Rebecca Moser Pardue. She was the oldest of five children. In 1911, she became one of the first students to enter the new East Tennessee State Normal School in Johnson City, Tennessee. After graduation with a certificate in Domestic Science, she served variously as a home demonstration agent and a teacher. She then continued her education at George Peabody College and at the University of Tennessee. She married Cloyde E. Keirn on June 4, 1920. Together they had two daughters. Keirn died in Athens, Tennessee on January 4, 1983.

The bulk of the Alta Elizabeth Pardue Keirn Papers consists of photographs from the early twentieth century, including numerous photographs taken at and near East Tennessee State Normal School where Keirn was a student from 1911-1914. The photographs mainly depict other students and school activities, such as sports and theater. There are also several documents, including a brief biographical sketch of Keirn by an unknown author.
