Biography

Ruth E. Thomas taught Latin and commerce at East Tennessee State (State Teachers College) 1927-1943. She received an A.B. from Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas in 1915; a B.S. from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Kansas in 1920; an A.M. from the University of Chicago in 1925; and a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 1935. After leaving East Tennessee State in 1943, Thomas went to the University of Kentucky where she taught commerce from 1943 until 1964. After retiring from Kentucky, she went to Columbia College, Columbia, South Carolina, where she taught commerce from 1964 to 1970. Thomas died on January 21, 1975 at Burlington, Colorado.

Scope and Contents Ruth Thomas, an East Tennessee State College faculty member, gave this scrapbook "in appreciation of the work of Dr. And Mrs. Sherrod, who have done more than any others to make the campus of State Teachers College one of the most beautiful in America."
