Christy, Thomas Calvin, 1950-
Thomas Calvin Christy was born January 30, 1950. He attended elementary school and high school in Wooster, Ohio, where he also received his B. A. in speech communication at the College of Wooster. He also pursued graduate studies at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee.
After completing his B. A. degree, Christy worked at a number of local radio stations including WKYE, Bristol, Virginia; WOPI, Bristol, Tennessee; WGRV, Greeneville, Tennessee; and WKPT, Kingsport, Tennessee. From 1974 to 1977 he worked with Broadside TV of Johnson City, where he coordinated crew and on-location recording engagements and supervised equipment maintenance, among other production-related duties. From 1977 until 1982, he worked for WETS-FM, the National Public Radio affiliate on the campus of East Tennessee State University. At WETS Christy was involved in the production of such programs as the weekday afternoon jazz and bluegrass broadcasts and the arts and fusion broadcasts. He also coordinated remote broadcast and recording productions.
