Carr family


H. Phil Carr was born in Johnson City, Tennessee in 1915, son of Samuel H. and Frances Carr. H. Phil Carr was raised in East Tennessee and eventually served as safety inspector for Holston Ordinance in c. 1947 before becoming vice-president and treasurer for Carr Brothers, Inc., a building and supply outlet, in 1950. His father served as vice-president and secretary for the building supply company, and Paul Carr, Samuel Carr's brother, functioned as the company's president. Carr Brothers, Inc. remained in operation until 1964.

In c. 1966 H. Phil Carr became the secretary and treasurer for Johnson City's Seven-Up Bottling Company. Two years later he accepted a position as a building contractor and supervisor for Bilt-Well Homes. Carr began operating Art Framers, a frame and mat shop located on Johnson City's North Roan Street, in c. 1985. He continued operating his business until his death on June 29, 1991 following a lengthy illness
