DeVault family (Jonesborough, Tenn.)

The DeVault family of Jonesborough, Tennessee is descended from early Washington County, Tennessee pioneer Frederick DeVault, who built the DeVault Tavern in 1821 in the Leesburg community. A noted stop on the Old Stage Road from Memphis to Washington, D. C., the tavern was owned and operated by the family for several generations and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Scope and Contents The papers of LeRoy Reeves consist of letters, military orders, photographs, sketches, newspaper clippings and genealogical data. His experimental sketches of the Tennessee state flag and his correspondence relating to the adoption of the flag are of particular interest to Tennesseans and vexillologists. Other papers document some of his activities as a member of the United States military and the research he conducted for his book Ancestral Sketches.
