Biography

Mae Walker was born July 31, 1904 to Samuel Brown Walker and Lula Stepp Walker in Jellico, Tennessee, a mining town on the Tennessee-Kentucky state line. She graduated from East Tennessee State College in 1926. Walker's father, a photographer, was known throughout the area as "The Pictureman". Walker's mother learned photography from her husband. Bessie Mae Walker died Tuesday, July 13, 1993 at Hillcrest West Nursing Home in Knoxville, Tennessee.
