Biography

The Computer Center was established at East Tennessee State University in 1962. The Office of Computer Services was created in 1970 to oversee the operation of the Computer Center, which was devoted to research and education, and the Data Processing Center, which performed administrative functions for the university. Stanford H. Johnson was director of the Office of Computer Services from 1970 to 1978.

The Office of Research and Information Systems was established at the university in 1972. Dr. Jerry H. Rust, Jr., the first director, was responsible for institutional research and data development, for planning and managerial decisions, and for encouraging faculty and staff research.
