East Tennessee State University. Office of Student Affairs
Organization
Administrative History
The Office of Student Affairs was organized in 1961 under the title Dean of Students as an outgrowth of the student personnel services department. This reorganization was one of the results of a self-study completed for accreditation under the direction of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Ella V. Ross, the former dean of women, served as the first dean of students. She was largely responsible for the reorganization structure which she recommended after conducting a detailed study of other leading institutions of higher learning. She remained dean until her retirement in 1968, when Dorman G. Stout, Jr. became dean.
