Biography
The Wednesday Morning Music Club was organized in Johnson City, Tenn., in 1912. The aim of the club was and remained the study of music in all of its various aspects and the promotion of the musical welfare of Johnson City and the surrounding community. Over the years, the club sponsored guest artists, junior music clubs, provided scholarships, provided financial support to the public schools for musical activities, and supported such cultural organizations as the Community Concerts Associations. A highlight in the club's history was sponsoring a fund-raising concert by John Philip Sousa and his orchestra that made possible the purchase of a Steinway grand piano housed in the Johnson City Public Library. The club was the oldest Federated Music Club in East Tennessee.
