Biography

The Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers was organized at a meeting in Nashville on January 24-25, 1911. Mrs. Kate C. Robertson was elected first president. The Congress met annually with increasing memberships in local organizations. In March 1924, the first bulletin was published by the Congress. However, the Tennessee Parent-Teacher did not receive its current title until 1928. The purpose of the Congress was to work for cooperation between parents and teachers in an effort to expand the educational opportunities for all children.
