Clan Maxwell Society
The Clan Maxwell Society was established in 1968 for the preservation and perpetuation of the Maxwell family history and Scottish culture. The society provides a repository for publications, historical records, and artifacts that document the Maxwell Clan genealogy. It distributes publications to its constituency relating the family name to Scottish history and Caerlaverock Castle, the ancient seat of the Maxwell Clan chief. In addition to perpetuating Scottish customs and traditions, the organization promotes "clan sentiment and sociability among its members" by providing educational information through their publications and supporting social activities during annual meetings. In 1990 the society consisted of over 500 members from throughout the United States.
