The negatives and contact prints focus on the August 13, 1940 flood on the Linville River Railroad (LRR), a narrow gauge railroad which ran from Pineola, North Carolina to Cranberry, North Carolina. Pettengill Collection documents railroad operations of the Norfolk Southern Railroad and its predecessor corporation, the Southern Railway, primarily from the 1960s to the early 2000s. The collection consists of images scanned from photographs that belonged to former East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad conductor Cy Crumley. There are also printouts from the website "The Cy Crumley Scrapbook” created by Ken Riddle. The images were also used in the book Cy Crumley's Tweetsie: Ninety Years on the Narrow Gauge, compiled by Kenneth Riddle.

Ridley Wills East Tennessee Postcard Collection

Scope and Contents

Ridley Wills began collecting Tennessee postcards in the 1930s, eventually amassing some 30,000 postcards. In 2015, he began distributing them to regional institutions. The cards in this collection represent landmarks in East Tennessee, especially in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and in Carter, Greene, Johnson, Sullivan, Washington and Unicoi Counties. There are images of schools, churches, hotels, towns, railroads, scenery and more.
