Knights of Pythias, Iron Clad Lodge

The Knights of Pythias of North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia is a black fraternal society founded in 1869 in Richmond, Virginia.

The mission of the Knights of Pythias was benevolence. This was accomplished by an extensive burial bureau founded by dues paying members. The burial bureau handled funeral expenses, and the endowment bureau paid an endowment to a Knight's widow.

The Iron Clad Lodge was based in Morristown in upper East Tennessee. Frank N. Stephenson was the Iron Clad Lodge's Keeper of Records and Seal, and N. N. Reynolds of Pulaski, Tennessee was the Grand Chancellor for the Knights' Grand Lodge, State of Tennessee. Nationally, the organization was under the leadership of S. W. Green, the Supreme Chancellor, whose office was in New Orleans, Louisiana.
