The Convocation Tapes consist of two tapes. Tape I includes one thirty-minute "Omni Presents: Omniline Special Education 'The Power of the President'," an interview with James L. Fisher, president of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education. Fisher discussed his book, The Power of the Presidency, which revolves around the position of university presidency and its power and functions. Also included on Tape I are remarks by President Ronald E. Beller, ETSU, on the university's "Coming of Age" at the October convocation held at the D. P. Culp Student Center. President Beller introduced Dr. Fisher, who spoke on ETSU's coming of age, and its role in higher education, as well as on higher education in general. Fisher's remarks continue on Tape II.
The Convocation Tapes were transferred to the University Archives by Thomas Headley, Department of Communication, East Tennessee State University (ETSU) on October 23, 1984. The tapes were opened for research in December 1987.
Marie Tedesco completed processing the collection in 1987.
