The Earl R. Yates Collection contains words and music to country, gospel, and bluegrass songs, along with information about the country music industry, country and bluegrass musicians, and the Grand Ole Opry (radio program). The collection contains printed material, photographs, and clippings. The printed material includes songbooks, calendars, promotional sheets, periodicals (including magazines and fan-club newsletters), and published histories. The photographs include those clipped from periodicals and other published material. The material in the collection dates from 1938 to 1970, but about half of the items in the collection are undated.
The collection is divided into two series: Series 1, Printed Material, and Series 2, Photographs and Clippings. The items in both series are arranged alphabetically by title or performer. An index to the collection follows the box and folder list.
