The Oversight Committee for the Institute for Appalachian Affairs (IAA) Records date from 1978 to 1984 with the year 1983 predominating. The records contain correspondence, reports, notes, minutes, surveys, a prospectus, and evaluations.
Significant subjects included are internal search for a new director for the institute, goals and long range plans for the institute, programs and projects of the institute, and selection of committee members. These records document the criteria by which the Committee chose the new director for the institute.

Method of Acquisition
The records of the Oversight Committee for the Institute for Appalachian Affairs were placed in the University Archives in May 1984. The records were accumulated by Dr. Ellen Garrison as a result of her participation as a member of the committee.
Betty Davis completed processing the collection in 1988.
