The maps depict the planning of subdivisions, water and sewage line construction, proposed property annexation, the building of (Old) Science Hill High School, and the layout of railroad track through Johnson City.

The James D. Moody Collection was donated to the Archives of Appalachia by James D. Moody on July 12, 1982.
Norma Myers completed processing and the collection was opened to researchers on May 14, 1991.
