East Tennessee State Normal School. United Student Body

East Tennessee State Normal School was founded in 1911. By 1915 the need for a student organization was apparent. The Blue and Gold, student publication, March 1915, ran an editorial recommending a plan to give financial support to student programs and events. In November 1915, the Blue and Gold published the proposed constitution of the Student Body Organization. This constitution was accepted unanimously, and the first officers were elected by the end of the fall term, 1915.

The United Student Body assessed each member $1 per quarter which supported such activities as the lyceum course, basketball, baseball, tennis, track, and the student publication.
