Show Forms of Material (links to similar genres)Scope and Contents: The Elizabethton Star Negative Collection contains 4 x 5 and 2½ x 2½, black and white safety film negatives of pictures taken by the staff photographers for the Elizabethton Star newspaper. Five glass negatives have been kept with the collection.
The negatives date from 1956 to 1968. The newspaper also kept in its files a few copy negatives made from older pictures which preserve earlier scenes in Elizabethton.
The negatives concern the following subjects: news events; scenes of the city and surrounding area including buildings, landmarks, city streets, and the countryside; commercial and industrial activities such as store fronts and interiors, merchandise displays, and manufacturing operations; sporting events; recreational activities; school and church activities; and individual and group portraits. Nearly half of the collection is classified as group portraits. Engagement and wedding pictures were not included in the collection. Negatives of the construction of Carter County Hospital and of prints used in an issue featuring the history of Elizabethton have been maintained as a separate series.
